Dr Francis Katoa

General Practitioner

I am a General Practitioner with a special interest in mental health and early intervention care. I work with people who have reached a point where asking for help feels vulnerable. What you will find in our consultations is a listening ear and a safe, steady space to speak openly about what you are carrying. We will work together to understand what is happening and develop a clear, practical plan forward.

My approach is grounded in both professional training and lived experience. Supporting loved ones through mental health challenges has shaped how I practise medicine. It has taught me the importance of dignity, patience, and culturally safe care, particularly for those who feel unheard within the health system.

I am a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. My postgraduate training includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Youth and Adolescent Mental Health. I also have experience delivering structured mental health assessments and brief psychological interventions within primary care.

At Connect, I provide comprehensive mental health assessments, evidence based treatment plans, prescribing where appropriate, and clear communication with your regular General Practitioner to ensure continuity of care. GP letters and clinical summaries are routinely provided so your wider healthcare team remains informed and aligned.

My focus is accessible healthcare delivered with clinical rigour and integrity. Care should be available when it is needed, at a price that remains realistic for individuals and families.
